"50. Cliffe, Kent. Fragment from lower part of a black cooking-pot found in 1966 unstratified on the beach at Cliffe Marshes beside a Romano-British and medieval site (cf. JRS LVI, 2I7). A graffito below the decoration scored with a stick before firing reads: MIITRIA" JRS 57, 1967, 210
JRS 56 217: (4) A number of mounds containing cinders, charcoal and pottery of the second and third centuries have been recorded in the Cliffe Marshes. Kilns were found a 1/4 of a mile NE. of Cliffe (TQ 743785). In the salt-marsh 2 miles to the W. were found a boat 20 ft. long, an embankment, and a chalk-and-gravel floor 120 ft. long with post-holes 4-5 ft.apart.
