IV, 7)

und in Princeton SUCIDAVA or Pîrjoaia : On the right bank of the Danube, 3 km downstream from the village, are the ruins of a Roman fortress of the 4th c. A.D. It has not been excavated systematically. The path of the rampart can still be seen as well as the outline of a Christian basilica inside the city walls. The Peutinger Table and the Antonine Itinerary identify the site as Sucidava (in Moesia Secunda). According to a recent hypothesis, this would be the site of Daphne, which Procopius includes among the phrouria on the left bank of the Danube (De aed. 4.7) but which A. Marcellinus, perhaps with more justification, places on the right bank of the river.
