"first identified in 1960, when it was photographed in the west face of the field-wall at Cat Stairs (NY 755 677), 4.60 m south of the Wall and 198 m west of milecastle 39 (Castle Nick). ... When Wright visited the site in 1961, he found the stone had been removed to the Twice Brewed Inn (NY 752 669), where it was said to have been found in the building-work. After being displayed here for years, ti was removed by a subsequent licensee who 'had little use for history', and incorporated in the foundations of the Ladies' lavatory, where no trace of it is now" (RIB 3375)
