"In a ditch on the site of a Roman cemetery, ‘about one mile west of Mr. Morant's house’ (Soc. Ant. Minutes). A short mile would place the find-spot on the western fringe of the Roman cemetery which lay south-west of Roman Colchester" (RIB 193)
